Here is something you can do. Visit John Greenleaf Whittier's birth place on route 110 in Haverhill. Ma. It's only about twenty minutes on the back roads. Whittier is considered a national treasure. His Quaker type poetry is known far and wide. He was a staunch abolitionist and activist. My favorite Whittier poem is "Snowbound". Just a note, don't get trapped in the route one escape route if your heading south this afternoon. It seems this year everyone is trying to save that $1.00 toll and spending $10.00 in gas stopped in traffic. Route 95 is still your best bet to get home no matter how bad it looks.
