HAMPTON BEACH EARLY IN THE MORNING

Casino

Any idea how early in the morning this picture was taken at Hampton Beach? I believe it was about 5:30 am on a weekday. It gives you a good idea of the layout of the boardwalk and the Casino Ballroom which is upstairs on the left. Billy Idol performed there the other night I heard he wa alright. Now don't think there is nobody at the beach. If I could pan right with this photo and show you the beach you would see dozens of work crews cleaning the beach as well as many joggers and people determined to get the best location setting up umbrellas and beach chairs. Sometimes I'll watch these early arrivers. They look like ants going back and forth to the car for more and more toys, coolers, chairs, blankets and other stuff. It would be easier to stay home and dump a bucket of sand in the living room.

HAMPTON AIRFIELD

Hampton airfield

I have mentioned the Hampton Airfield before But I like to stick in a new picture once and a while so you can really get the flavor of what an old air field is actually like. This is during one of the many fly in events they have on weekends during the summer and fall. The building behind contains airport operations such as it is as well as the Hampton Airfield cafe. If you look behind the golf cart you can see the outside deck for the restaurant. You can actually sit on the edge of the runway, walk around and look at the planes or go for a a biplane or helicopter ride. Perfect place to bring that nice blue vintage Vespa below. For more info on the Vespa call Robin @603-433-2020.

RYE HARBOR NH

Rye Harbor

Rye Harbor in Rye NH just north of North Hampton is a real working harbor. You'll find lobster boats, private fishing boats, public deep sea fishing boats plus just all around sail boats and pleasure craft. There is a little lunch stand there if you want a cup of coffee or a hot dog. If you you would like to spend some time watching the activities at the Harbor I would suggest the deck at Saunders Restaurant which is just to the right of the above picture. They have a large deck and very large prices as well. What the heck your paying for the view not the food. Great spot to bring that Vespa!!

FREE ENTERTAINMET AT HAMPTON BEACH

the shell at hampton beach
After a day of eating all those expensive clams and now that you've got the Vespa put to bed how about something free! That's right FREE! Every night you'll find free entertainment at the Shell at Hampton Beach. They have a quite a varied venue from oldies to show tunes. They usually book entertainers that play something for everyone so if you don't like one song just wait for the next. After all it is free. When you have had enough of the music maybe it's time to head into one of the many local pubs and restaurants from Italian to Irish what ever your looking for you'll find it. Several restaurants feature roof top decks.

ESSEX MA FOR FRIED CLAMS ON A VESPA

Courtesy www.vintagevespas.net

It's a nice sunny day and your ready to get out of Hampton Beach for a while. How about some Fried Clams Essex MA style! You can take this Vespa above and have the perfect day! Just head south on route one and keep going. You'll pass by Newburyport, Rowley and then take a left in Rowley (by the diner) and go through Ipswich. As you go through downtown Ipswich and come out the other side You'll see signs on the left for Essex. Essex is a great little town with antique shops side by side. Great stuff but don't expect any bargains. You just might find what you've been looking years for! Just past the shops as you go over the Marsh You'll see the Clam stands. I'm not going to make any selections for you but the first one on the left is my favorite. After you have your fill of the worlds best fried clams you can continue on and you'll come to Gloucester MA also a great spot with a long boardwalk. There is a lot to see in this area of MA. Hey I think I just convinced myself to take that ride today. It only takes a couple hours round trip. By the way the Vespa above with sidecar is $5995 with a rebuilt engine and 6 month full warranty call Robin at Vintage Vespa in Portsmouth at 603 433 2020. Please tell her you saw it on the Hampton NH website. Happy Clams!

LOBSTER BOAT

Lobster Boat

Lobstering off the New Hampshire coast is a hard life. We forget these guys are out there chipping ice off their boats to keep from sinking while we're at home in front of the fire. But on a day like pictured above when the seas are calm and the temperature is around 75 it appears to be the perfect job. This boat is out at the Isles of Shoals. But you can watch them right off shore hauling in their traps. If you would like to take a ride on a lobster boat and help out just go up to Rye Harbor and ask for Captain Sue. She'll bring you out but She keeps the Lobsters!!
