HAMPTON BEACH STILL A MESS

I took a ride down to Hampton Beach yesterday. What a mess! The construction that was suppose to be stopped for the season still continues. Some of the businesses are not open yet. Rental signs are everywhere. I'm sure they will have it straightened out shortly. Add to that the sand removal trucks. Due to the recent storms Hampton Beach now has too much sand. Approximately 500 truck loads of sand are being moved up to Wallis Sands State Park that lost their sand during the storms. One of the Beach workers said it was very discouraging to have worked so hard the weeks before the storm to get everything ready and then the Nor' Easter hit.

To add insult to injury the "Red Tide" has now spread all the way to Cape Code. The worse it's ever been. So forget the shell fish and have an Italian Sausage. Hopefully all these problems will get straightened out before the fourth of July.

THE BASIN AT FRANCONIA STATE PARK

Basin

The Basin. Located in the
Franconia Notch State Park. The beautiful waterfall at the Basin, has at its base, a granite pothole 20 feet in diameter. It is believed to have been eroded 15,000 years ago while the North American ice sheet was melting. It has been smoothed by small stones and sand whirled around by the Pemigewasset River. Below the Basin is a water-eroded rock formation called the Old Man's foot.

From Hampton take 101 west and I-93 North it's about a 2 hour drive but you'll find plenty of things to keep you busy. See Indian Head and where the Old Man Of The Mountain was before falling. There are numerous hiking trails for the beginner and expert. Campsite are also available. One of the many things good about living in Hampton is that in just a couple of hours or less you can be in another world. Go from flatlander to mountain people.

FRANKLIN BLOCK OPTICIANS Ltd.

Choice of Hampton NH Website

First of all this is not a paid ad. Just as I tell you about the best restaurants in the Seacoast area I also tell you of some of the best businesses and services you can choose. If your in need of glasses of any kind or maybe loose a pair while on vacation or sit on your sun glasses I recommend seeing the people at Franklin Block Opticians Ltd. They are located right next to Market Basket on route one in Portsmouth on the left side. By the way you can also see some of those restored Vespas in the same place. Stop in or call Robin for an appointment.

A NEW HAMPSHIRE RAINBOW OVER THE OCEAN

Rainbow

I know, you can barely see it but it was a spectacular rainbow late Monday afternoon after the thunderstorms went through Hampton and the seacoast area.

Well after all is said and done I would have to say the Memorial day weekend wasn't a wash out after all. Whether you were at the beach or at the festival in Newburyport, attending one of the many Memorial Day Ceremonies around the State of NH or the celebration at the Gazebo in North Hampton.

Traffic as usual was heavy on route I-95 as thousands of weekend visitors slowly made it home. The past few years many people have taken an extra day and will be heading home today so expect traffic to be heavier than normal for a Tuesday morning and right through mid day.

I was out riding my motorcycle and getting new photos of the area which I will be sharing with you over the next couple of weeks so please bookmark this page or add it to your home page by clicking the I-con to the right for whatever service you use for a home page. This will add the headlines of the articles that have been recently written to your page. Have a great day!

MOTORCYCLES ON THE SEACOAST

Time to ride

I know I have mentioned this before but I can't emphasize enough there are a lot of bikes in the seacoast area so please be carefull. The reason is there is every kind of dealer on route one and of course the Kingdom of Seacoast Harley-Davidson, Plus the fact it's just a beautifull place to ride. Whether your winding up route 1A or on the backroads of Kensington and Exeter it's a thrill. Now add 50cc motor scooters and the much more capable Vespa scooters to the mix of two wheel adventurers and you have a virtual steady stream of two wheel enthusiast's. These vehicles can not stop as fast as a car so please don't pull out in front of them.
Well the weather has been a pleasant surprise after the many threats of a wash out weekend. Right now at 6am EDT there are breaks in the clouds and it doesn't look that bad. So get out and enjoy the last day of this Memorial day weekend. But be sure to pause and remember what this holiday actually represents.
Off to take some more pictures!

HAMPTON BEACH EARLY SATURDAY MORNING

Hampton beach

What a great surprise the weather was yesterday after the week before. Hampton Beach was packed! The sun bathers were out and just thousands of people milling around and enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. The merchants were very pleased as well. So what to do today. How about starting out with Sunday Brunch at the Old Salt Restaurant on route one in the center of downtown Hampton. This is a spread that will impress even the buffet professional! Brunch runs from 10am- 2pm. This is definitely your best deal if your hungry.
After Brunch if you have had enough of the beach take a ride up to Portsmouth, park anywhere downtown and just walk around. Take your time there are historical plaques that you'll miss if you hurry and there historical sites worth a second look at every turn. Portsmouth is a perfect place to walk.
Enjoy your holiday weekend and remember NH takes drinking and driving very seriously so don't even think about it, Have Fun and please check back often or add this page to your favorites. You can also click on one of the RSS ICONS to the left and it will add Hampton New Hampshire Headlines to your home page.
